I remember one electronics store in San Diego requiring fingerprints 
for a check or credit card purchase. I had my eye on a Sony XBR 25" 
TV. The price was $1200. They had everything ready for pickup when I 
discovered that requirement. When they refused to sell it without my 
prints I walked out. I can only imagine how many sales they lost.
