A good friend of mine worked for radio Shack for 29 years. He retired  in
12/2005.

He is still VERY well connected there, knowing many of the  local and district
managers. He says that Radio Shack is one of the WORST run  companies he's 
ever
seen. Some of their screw ups could be considered  MONUMENTAL, including:

Don't forget about Incredible Universe.  Remember them?  That was  
Tandy/Radio Shack's version of Circuit City/Best Buy/Etc.  That venture  fell flat on 
its face.  I remember a store in Houston that opened up in  1999.  It stayed 
open for six months.  One day, people who wanted to  shop there found the doors 
locked and "out of business" signs all over the  place.
 
My understanding is Fry's Electronics bought up some of the old IU  stores.
