You mean you couldn't tell when the awesome improvement in quality went away??

You might try the Kenwood tuner with a power supply. You can lock the 
tuner in either analog or digital. Actually, all you need is the 
tuner and their small controller head. No need for a separate 
receiver because the tuner takes over those duties, anyway.
