[BC] IBOC "secrets" and my opinions.

Wasn't this the objective of "AMAX"?

I recall that Jerry Lee, owner of WBEB here in Philadelphia and
influential NAB board member, encouraged the broadcast industry to
fund development of an affordable high-performance AM/FM receiver
about 20 years ago. He also owned WFIL at that time, wanted to do
something to enhance the quality of AM audio, and realized that there
was much room for improvement of receivers. Dick Sequerra, who had
designed fixed-tuned FM radios for Jerry, was recommended as a
consultant. I don't remember the original name of his initiative, but
it later evolved into AMAX. Who remembers more about this?

Unfortunately, these efforts fizzled out around the same time as the
IBOC concept was introduced as the "digital panacea" for all of AM's
shortcomings.
