From what I've heard (the radios are just delivered ... the main
shipment is due to dock next month) there has been some progress in
solving some of the issues that have been noted in the radios (from
various) manufacturers thus far. Radiosophy tells me they exceed the
Ibiquity sensitivity standards, and not by one or two dB.

Will they be perfect radios, DXing from NYC out to Kansas? Probably
not. However, I do think the radios are getting better as the
manufacturers get past the long hassles of dealing with Ibiquity and
"barely delivering the units," and are now focusing on improving the
reception. "Distant?" I think we have to wait and see exactly how
these units operate. It is interesting to note that manufacturers
(and Ibiquity) use a different measuring system than broadcasters do.
Some clarity in comparing VdBu and mV/m would sure help.

I know I have fielded a lot of comments and questions, both publicly
(on this list) and privately, and have asked many folks to share even
simple field intensity readings at their location. Unfortunately,
most have fallen back on being "busy" as the reason they can't share
data with us. Radio Guide would welcome an article that discusses
the reception of these radios - without the PR and hyperbole that
either praises the radios to heaven or consigns them to some
significantly lower estate.

It wouldn't hurt if broadcasters were a bit less cynical and ready to
see what has been accomplished.
