>>*Well, my BTA1M is actually fairly reliable. I've not yet had a single
minute of downtime in 5 months other then human error.*
I have a BTA1R as a back up in Louisville. Do you realize how much
power you are wasting with running that old, inefficient transmitter?
I'll give you an example. Recently one of my clients Bauer 707 went
belly up. It's repairable, however it wasn't coming back on the air
within a week so I convinced him to purchase a new Nautel J1000
transmitter. His power bill went from $400 watts a month to $80!
That's a savings of $320 a month. And that's not counting having to run
the air conditioning units at full blast to keep the Bauer cool. Just
on the power bill alone the Nautel will pay for itself in 3 years. This
is not taking into account the two sets of tubes he was going through in
a year because the Bauer was feeding into a very, VERY poor match on the
antenna.
It's not IF you can afford to replace the RCA, it's a matter of you not
being able to afford NOT to replace the RCA. The law of averages will
catch up to you soon, and you will have down time with the RCA. And it
will be big downtime.
