This topic brings back fond memories for me as I can still hear the "Sound" of those maintenace intensive creatures. Just add processing...
The McMartin consoles in particular had a big, fat, full sound . Similar in flavor to the Autogram IC series ? The amazing McCurdy ?
Any thoughts out there as to how this came about ? :
The McMartin because of the high voltage DC operating voltage ?
The characteristic "flavor" of the xfmrs?
The fact that they were discreet transistor designs mostly running in Class A ?
The passive mixing ?
I like to think that Rupert Neve heard it as well...
