For ripping, I use a freeware program called CDeX version 1.51, which is VERY
good, but I think it needs a DLL from an earlier version... but they may have
fixed that by now. ;) In any case, I am getting rip speeds of over 22x with a
LiteOn brand CD/RW drive. (Not a DVD, this is purely CD.) It's running on
Win98SE. So, I can rip an hour's worth of CD audio in about 4 minutes. Perfectl
y.
On several different machines.

Also, Jeff, I cannot remember who they are, but I have received snail-mail
"postcards" from several music providers who will "load-up" a HD for you. One o
f
them I remember because they offer pre-loaded package deals at sigificant
discounts, but they also have "pick-your-own" deals where you pay more per song
,
but you get ONLY the songs you WANT. (They have many thousands to pick from.)
They offered them in WAV format, too.

I went to their site and looked around. It was still in beta at the time,
back in late 2006. Must be up to speed by now. They had a significant number of

songs there (thousands), with "more coming soon!" and in several
genre's/categories.

Unfortunately, as I said, I cannot remember who they are.
