[BC] Downloading music

Jeff:
I wouldn't totally rule out iTunes and their ilk.

Apple's just signed an agreement with EMI to sell their music on the
iTunes Music Store without DRM; files rumored to be AAC at 256kbps.
AAC at this data rate would be nearly indistiguishable from a WAV
file (even iTMS' current 128kbps AAC sounds pretty good). They'll
cost $1.29 per song, $9.99 per album and, with no data protection
key, not a bad deal. Due to reduced file size, downloading such a
file is about five times faster than WAV files.

That's just Apple and EMI. If you're patient, the other labels and
online services will certainly follow in the near future. Maybe
someone will even offer loss-less files.
