When transistor audio amps came on the scene, many "experts" proclaimed the
death of the vacuum tube power amplifier. Yet, today's audiophile actually
prefers vacuum tubes and they have resurged in ways no would have guessed 20
years ago. Why? In many instances they sound better.
The 111C was a very heavy, overbuilt transformer designed when craft products
could still be cheaply made in the United States. It's designers did not have
access to computer aided SPICE programs, so they used brawn. In some ways it's
a lot like a 12 cylinder German staff car vs a modern day BMW. Both have 400
horsepower, but the BMW does it in an engine half the size. By the way, the
average Jensen output tramsformer with identical specs and sound is also less
that half the size and weight of a 111C. Look in an old DATS satellite
card-you'll find them there.

A Jensen equivalent should be under $100.00, even in small quantities.
Jensen is peerless in audio transformers.
