[BC] XT and RCF 1

The photo at the top of that site is either a Diplomat or an Executive. As
someone else pointed out the Executive was a stereo model that had a third
program amplifier feed for mono mix output. The Diplomat was really the same
electronics and box except that it was a dual channel console. It's
interesting to note that these dual channel consoles were very popular in
the days of AM/FM simulcasting. You could split off the AM or FM at any time
or run different spots on the AM or FM. We've come a long way!
The picture at the bottom is a Stereo Statesman. A really bare bones set up.
It featured stereo microphone preamplifiers for actual stereo miking. How
many of us remember PD's who insisted on this only to find out that it was
an annoyance whenever the jock turned his head while speaking! One thing to
be said about these designs is that the amplifiers were simple and common
throughout, particularly the Stereo Statesman. It used the same booster and
program amplifier module assembly for just about everything in the console.
If a program amp blew up you could steal the cue amp or one of the monitors
to get you back in business. I think the Stereo Statesman was also one of
Gates first attempts at an all silicon design. The Executive, President,
Diplomat and Ambassador models all used the same PNP Germanium electronics.
They quickly became a weak link in the chain. It's a good thing too. It got
a little company called BDI started by making retrofit electronics for those
boards. Does anyone on the board still have any of these consoles running
using our twenty plus year old electronics? I am just curious.
Have a great holiday everyone!

Thanks, Lane
I really appreciate your reply and thanks for the welcome! The unit is up
at Kingman at the moment. So hopefully I can get up there and check that
out. I have a really bad vintage picture I pulled off of
http://www.sakrison.com/radio/KNAC.html
This is not helpful for ID'ing the meter but this is an accurate but bad pic
of what the console looks like.
If you have one or know where I can find one, it would be most appreciated.
Of course, that's the tip of the iceberg I am sure. There is also an old
gates tube type mono console up there from ca. 1950 or so.

Hello Dave and I am sure all of us welcome you to the list. I believe that
Gates series of consoles used a Modutec brand meter. Let me look as I
thought I had a new on in box for a Gatesway 80. It may have been a Simpson
now that I think of the Stereo Statesman I have somewhere.
Thanks
