Jeff:

Usually one person- the client.
Having done a tremendous amount of remotes (commercial station days); some 
very good and some almost life threatening,
my impression is that *frequent* remoting was bad for the talent, put the 
quality of the show at question
(bad for the listener), but excellent for the sales person who got the 
commission. And there, I think
is the reason why these things can get scheduled at the most mundane 
locations at the oddest hours.
