[BC] No More Remotes

I think that too many remotes dilutes their effectiveness. That's what Emmis
has figured out.

I worked for a station that did about 4-6 remotes per week-all of them in
afternoon drive. It really took a toll on the talent (and me-I had to run the
board at the remote site). To them, being back in the studio was a treat, and
their shows were much better from the studio.

Being on the road all the time simply became a drag....

Criminal charges aside, the Civil trial will likely be a very
different story.
I can't conceive of not doing remotes. If their remotes were as
boring as they appeared, then I'm not surprised. We do from 30-40 remotes
each and every week from our 4 (soon to be 5) stations. Several of them are
2-3 hour full sports talk show broadcasts from various venues, often strip
clubs and Sports bars. Rarely are they as boring as the other guys
suggested. All are ISDN if possible, and if POTS Codec, (Comrex Vector,
Hotline or equivalent) only two 1 minute per hour cut ins. Marti remotes
are done from three high relay receiving sites. Cell phone remotes are only
last minute emergency while getting replacement equipment in place and never
acceptable for anything else. We have tons of GOOD giveaways, Real
personality DJ's and often visiting celebrities. At between 2 and 3K per
remote, I think the GSM and GM would kill if I suggested eliminating them.
I know that remote equipment is the easiest thing for me to convince the
boss to buy.
