[BC] AOL issues

I don't use my ISP's address because I haven't had a single ISP for more
than a year. Every time I've moved apartments, it's been out of my
provider's area.
That, and people of my demographic (20 something) started under their
parent's plan and, for the sake of privacy, didn't want to use the ISP's
address.

What I cannot fathom is why ANYone uses AOL in the first place.
What't the point (attraction)? why not just use your local ISP?
