Phil, I'm using 75' Valcoms on two FAA NDB facilities, one on 395 and
the other on 260 khz, and I like them quite well. However, the ATU units
are motorized autotuners and compensate for changing conditions as
weather changes. Also, they're running 25 watts, not 1 - 5kw. I'm certain
that the antenna will take it but the ATUs are built for 50 - 100 watts.
What
I like about them is the fact that they seem to be far more stable than what
we had in place before (shorter T-tops or perhaps a short tower). I presume
that's due to the greater electrical length (75' vs 35-40').
