LOL! Actually, the concept of "Radio FOR the people BY the people" seems
somewhat "cool" at first glance. Then when you look at the more practical side of
things... how many people will it actually appeal to? The feeding frenzy of
talentless, egotistical people clamoring for their "15 minutes of fame" would
probably drive-away anyone who actually had talent. If such did manage get on
the air, how many listeners would hear (and recognize) that talent? (Most
listeners would have tuned-out because of the garbage that was on before the good
stuff.)
I think that such a format *could* be made to work *to a degree* with very
careful selection and auditioning of submissions. Only the ones that actually
contain interesting or compelling content (and that were clearly intelligible &
not distorted) would get on the air. Perhaps they are already doing this, I
don't know... but if, say, a station could cluster programs of specific "themes"
together into blocks, and maintain some level of thematic consistency, then
perhaps there'd be a chance of making it work. Of course, charging (even
modestly) submitters for the privilege of airing their programs, should deter *most*
whackos & talentless wannabes.
Of course, I could be totally all wet, here, too. <g>
Willie...
