I've been on both sides of this discussion in looking for a job and
looking for an employee. The last time I was looking for a job I did
the ol' song and dance in sending out resumes, making calls, met for
interviews, etc. I got a few letters back saying they'd hired someone
else. I wasn't insulted that no one else wrote back to me because
that's what I expected.

Then about 3 years ago when I was looking for a receptionist I received
over 450 resumes. And that's just from local ads in the paper and such.
With everything else I had to do each day it took weeks just to go
through all the resumes. During the whole interview process I was
always mindful of the fact that *I* was on the other side of the desk
and to treat others as you would want to be treated.

(Just a quick job hunting tip: *Always* have at least 2 other people
check and recheck both resume and cover letter for mistakes or
omissions. Have them be tough on you. You would be amazed at the
sheer number of mistakes, especially numerous misspellings, in the
resume, never mind the cover letter. Easily 70% of resumes had obvious
mistakes and/or misspellings. 60% had no cover letter. 95% of the
cover letters were form letters. And then there were the hand-written
cover letters in pencil.)
