Don't feel bad. Common courtesy is passe. I received a phone call
from someone very high at the RAB. He recommended me for a job at a
Citadel station in Springfield, MA. Not far from here. Even with his
recommendation (he passed my resume to her and said I'd call) and my
background, the General Manager couldn't give me the courtesy of a
return phone call or email. She couldn't spare the time to talk to a
fellow professional. I believe in Karma. Her day will come.
One of the most impressive things about Buckley Broadcasting (WOR) is
the owner's insistence that you return all phone calls. He does. One
of the very few times I got my butt in a sling was when George Green,
former GM of KABC, Los Angeles, tried to reach me. We were having
trouble with Ma Bell's voicemail and I never got his message. He
called the owner. Since George is a great guy to talk to and he ran a
Talk station in the second largest market it made no sense for me to
ignore him. I like George. I wanted my programming on his station. My
argument made sense and it saved my butt. It also happened to be true.
Sometimes an ad for a job brings thousands of responses. There are
times when an answer to everyone just isn't possible.
