[BC] Poor ol' Ramsey

Ramsey got his start selling scrap electronics and cheap kits at hamfests.
Then in 1982, the home satellite dish business started, most people give
credit to a guy from Oklahoma, Bob Cooper who moved to the Turks and Caicos
Islands, and John Ramsey. John had a satellite receiver that was real
cheap, worked fairly well and sold like hotcakes. His was the first mass
produced home satellite receiver. The bandwidth was a little narrow, so the
colors were sometimes washed out, but you could not beat the price. I was
installing dishes for Microdyne out of Ocala Florida, but was constantly
asked to install home equipment. I put up over 100 of them in the Bahamas
alone back in the early 80's. The big TV satellite was Satcom 1 then Satcom
1R and when I left the business, the CATV channels were mainly on Satcom 3R.
Ramsey has grown over the years. He makes a lot of stuff that you used to
pay a lot more for from Griefkit. Dont know what happened to Cooper. I
think he was involved with either or both 530 RVC and 1020 in the Turks and
Caicos. I know he put in the first CATV system there.

He has flaunted the feds for years, usually lands on his feet. His kits are
pretty good for the money. I've put lots of them together over the years.

Evidently the FCC isn't the only agency that has it
in for Ramsey. According to this, he's on the Customs
Service poop-list as well:
