But there's a difference- ipods are far more portable, convenience, and
economical than cassettes and CDs ever were. I know many young people who
don't listen to radio at all now- they sample and download what they want to
hear from I-tunes, Rhapsody, Yahoo and similar internet music services and
carry around exactly the music they want to hear.
And it's not just music- even talk radio is now facing serious competition
from hundreds of "podcasts" serving every conceivable interest- without
commercials or censorship. Anyone with a internet server can go into the
podcast business and new ones are popping up every day.
