Your absolutely right...Acuff-Rose made more money as a publishing company  
than selling Roy Acuff's records.  Not to belittle Roy in any way but his  
money was the publishing company.   Also if you are a performer and  have a couple 
of hits that you wrote and a bunch of duds you wrote,  while  you are on the 
charts  make a CD will all you duds and the one hit.   Then you get more of 
the proceeds as the writer and performer of the CD.   We suffer thru the dud 
songs.    Incidentally I have also heard  many "dud" or "filler" songs on albums 
or CD's that I actually liked but never  made anything close to main stream 
listeners.
