Keep the 50Kw Clears on AM for just that reason. 

I'm talking about moving all of the "Mom and Pop" stations, "graveyard" 
channels, Daytimers, flea-night power stations, super-directionals, etc, to a new 
VHF band. Open up the MW band for what it was *meant* to do: Cover huge areas. 
Use VHF for what it was meant to do: Cover *local* areas.

That's what I think should be done.
