[BC] Satellite Sound

While listening to XM, specifically the 60s channel, Phlash Phelps said that
there is a 13 second delay from studio to XM Radio receiver! So I bet that
they are shipping the data stream directly to Directv Castle Rock and Los
Angeles BOC by fiber. 13 seconds! That's an eternity. Interestingly, when
doing MPEG2 digital transmissions, the delay to Directv or Dish Network is
only about 6 seconds.

I hear that the feed to DirecTV comes right from XM's master control
and is not in any way connected with XM's satellite encoding.

Ah....so that's why my Dish Network feed from Sirius sounds so good. I
didn't think they'd have multiple satellite receivers doing this. Just
doesn't have that "satellite" sound coming from my satellite. (did I say
that correctly? It's getting late. :) )

One of our neighbors was hearing our signal on his *alarm* system! Turns out

that the installer never bothered to ground the box that held the master
control panel to the main PC board! All I had to do was jumper the PC board
"Ground" pad to the box. Instantly solved his problem. He was quite
appreciative.

Of course, the mantra: "Ground *Everything*" works best with AM signals. FM
is a whole 'nuther issue. Sometimes, merely moving the wires a few inches
can
make the difference between horrible RFI and total silence. (Been there,
seen
it happen.)
