[BC] DX Reception across the bonny seas

Really?
I have five XM radios (4 Roady 2's and a Skyfi) and the only problem I've ever
had was one broken antenna connector (which I repaired and is now working
fine).

None of the Roady's is installed either - they just 'float around' the
vehicles.

My XM conked out - I've been thru about 6 XM receivers since it first got on
the air, they don't last at all.

Anyway, I was forced to listen to AM driving thru Louisiana on a long road
trip the past couple of days (nights). (Getting on soapbox) To me, it is
terrible that all the little peanut whistles are allowed to stay on at night
obliterating all the wonderful signals that used to come in crystal clear. In
the olden days it was fun to drive at nite and listen to the clear channel (
not the company) stations from far away. It is pretty much impossible to get
any clear signals for very long of a stretch of road with all the
interference. (off soapbox)

But while I was cussing out the fact that all these signals obliterate
everything and nothing is listenable, i was wondering if along the east or
west coast, can AM signals from europe or asia be received readily at night
across the seawater? I've never driven up and down those coastal areas and i
just wondered if it is routine for signals to traverse the ocean on AM? How
about USA signals on regular AM receivable in Europe routinely at nite on the
coast? Perhaps some of you who have lived in those areas (Especially BEFORE
the USA completely ruined nighttime AM over here) could tell about this. It
never crossed my mind before but long drives make one's mind wander.
