Actually, KDFC (our local commercial classical station) has announced that
its HD2 stream will feature longer works and a more challenging repertoire
-- basically what I (and a lot of other hardcore classical fans) have
wanted for years in San Francisco radio. My Receptor will now wake me up to
KDFC HD2. And I'm sure that KDFC's program director is pleased that he will
be able to program a channel like this, as opposed to classical music as
background music for offices (Classical music! It's even better than
Mantovani! And so much older!), which is how KDFC now positions itself, at
least during the daytime daypart.

Speaking of the Receptor, there was a picture of it on page D1 of today's
Wall St Journal, along with an extensive article about the extra
programming that HD Radio was rolling out in most major markets. The WSJ
has about 2 million readers, so the HD Consortium's promotional activities
seem to be off to a flying start.

I'm sure that Rich will figure out some way to put a negative spin on this,
but I find it hard to think of one.
