Thanks, Dave, for sharing that story.
I had lunch with Lew Wetzel (formerly with Triangle Publications) in
November and we discussed some of this "lore". He suggested that I
interview Harold Kassens about the stereo approval process, but
unfortunately Mr. Kassens passed on later that month, before I had a chance
to call him.
Another FCC official involved in this area was Prose Walker, but
unfortunately he also is no longer with us. Lew mentioned that Prose was
successful in convincing the former DDR (East Germany) to adopt the
GE/Zenith system instead the USSR's scheme, a decision that ruffled a few
feathers!
I'm writing a website feature about the history of FM stereo, so any related
material would be appreciated.
