Pull the soapbox over here. I feel the need to mount up and VOCATE.
(No, I don't mean advocate - the time for that is long since over.)
The political reality is simple. The owners of radio got what they asked
for. NO, mom and pop radio did not get to vote. Thus has it ever been.
Realistically, money talks while "education" walks. That is the rule of
representative politics and has been since Roman times.
Ibiquity has the bank roll. Opposition to IBOC may be significant in the
engineering community, but so is support. Who is a congress critter to
believe. One contributes one does not. When faced with black and white,
said congress critter KNOWS reality is gray and goes with the green.
The FCC has ruled and will rule again in the matter of docket 99-325.
Only congress can step in and overrule the FCC. Given the fact that most
of the major green supports the FCC's position, do you really think there
is ANY point to continued discussion? What the FCC does is what we will
be doing for the balance of most of our careers.
The game is OVER. It WAS over as soon as USADR bought Lucent DR. Our job
is to make it work as best we can or find the resources ($$$$$$$$$$) to
combat Ibiquity. Since the engineering community can barely agree on the
time of day unless we have a GPS in view, REALISTICALLY, that ain't
gonna happen.
Now, as Barry said, can we move on to something where we CAN make a
difference? Like how to resolve or at least mitigate some of the
problems that we know are there and those we expect will be cropping
up.
Can we at least grow up and see reality. The politicians are light years
ahead of us in this regard - - they make the reality. If it won't work,
all they are going to do is tell us to fix it, or they will find someone
who will.
Now dismounting soapbox and MOVING ONWARD. Maybe progress, maybe not, but
at least it is better than being stuck in the same groove over and over
and over and over and over and over ...... and over and over ad infinitum.
