Just to clarify, so we aren't spreading mis-information on this list:
The President of the HD Alliance, Peter Ferrara, serves as focal point
and coordinator but does not make format decisions.

Conference calls are held with all participating stations in each market
and the market programmers or managers select their own formats.  The
Alliance ensures that formats are not duplicated within a market (at
least amongst Alliance participants) so the listeners get the maximum
variety.  Nobody within the Alliance makes any decisions as to which
format will be broadcast on a given station.  And the stations will
program and originate those formats individually and locally.

Formats are being determined via this mechanism as we speak.  We will
soon be able to enjoy more variety and commercial-free content on free
radio!  My hope for all of us is that this new content will ehance the
relevance of free radio to the listening public, thus helping those of
us on this list currently employed in the free radio industry to
continue to work in this business which many of us love.
