There's a rather thought-provoking article over on Groklaw right now that
makes for interesting reading, particularly in light of the recent Sony/BMG
RootKit fiasco:

This quote summarizes the essence well:

*** snip snip ***
The widespread use of standard computer products to control all sorts of
important systems is being ignored and DRM is being introduced as if there
was no role for computers except as personal entertainment devices and as if
computer users were purely consumers of prepackaged ?content?.
*** snip snip ***

As an industry, we are heavily dependent upon IT systems as the basic tools by
which we get our daily work done. What happens when DRM comes built into the
hardware and our production/automation systems start getting accorded the
same sort of 'rights' as a teenager looking for a Britney Spears download?

Cheers!
