The good old days are always better. Even back then. There were plenty of
critics of radio 35-40 years ago too. There was some discussion earlier in
this thread of Tom Donahue...he lamented how boring and stale and safe most
radio was back in the mid-60s...an era we now look back on as a golden age.
The big difference back then is that all but the most vocal critics
listened anyway since there weren't any other choices. There was no
webcasting, satellite radio, ipoDs, etc. Radio or 8-track, that was your
choice. These days...257 channels & nothing's on.
