Back in the 80's, we had a fill-in anchor do something like this on his last day at the end of the late news. He was from a sister station and said something along the lines of - this is the last time you'll see me, I'm going back to NY and I hope I never get sent to this god-for -saken station again. My understanding was that our county wasn't urban enough to score his needs and he was not happy.
He was sent to us after we were left w/o an anchor or news director after they both were fired when they reportedly got into a fight that ended at the GM's house.
Then there was the director that added the Porky Pig "that's all folks" to the end of his last newscast.
Who needs soap operas when you have every day life.
