Yes, the studios were still on Mt. Beacon. Along with KEAR, KKHI, KMPX
(maybe KKHI had moved to Mt. San Bruno by then) and, as you mention, KABL.
(I would haul up all the production and newly made tapes each day from the
studios/offices in Ghirardelli Square. I could drive Wolfback Ridge road in
my sleep. At that time, if memory serves me, KDFC had a BE? Here ya go
testing my memory again. I remember it had a cream colored cabinet. The
Western Electric was still in place and I think we could use it as a backup
if needed. Never had to. I have pictures of the old Western Electric (I
should scan those and send them to oldradio.com). James Gabbert made the
same mods to the final cavity as he did to his W.E. Talk about your tank!
Funny, I can remember KABL had an RCA (blue cabinet with the big knobs) but,
again, I think KDFC had a B.E.
