We had the same problem with a facility in Mississippi.  The Varian Gen
III did not do well with the salty air.

Stupidity,,  They would rather spend money talking about a fix than
spending
money fixing the problem.

Personally, I like the idea of heating the dish with strip heaters,
hopefully with the upcoming upgrade we will get something installed.

I just got into deep do-do because I forced them (went over managements
heads) to get closed A/C in the transmitter shelters.. We used to
exhaust
the waste transmitter heat outside and because we live on the coast the
make-up air was moist and salty (can you imagine).  But I am still in
deep
do-do...

There are forced air de-icing systems available as well as clamped on
electric element systems for just about any dish.  Other than money
concerns why would a 24/7 organization not install one of these systems,
especially on larger dishes (2.4m and up)?  I ask this not as a
sarcastic comment but as a real question to help me better understand
the operational side.  We install a few uplinks every year and we always
install de-icing but these are generally big-budget ops.
