yeah there are restrictions but i can't remember what they are.   if you go
to www.vanityhq.com they list them somewhere on that website I think.
some simply have to do with invalid prefixes.  otoh, there are some
surprising (to me) calls that have been issued.  there is actually an
association of nudist hams (not that there's anything uh, wrong with
that....i guess) that got the call NU5DE.  I didn't believe it, but lo and
behold, there it was at www.qrz.com/NU5DE

Early this morning on 3885 kHz I heard a ham station with the
callsign of W4TIT.  I thought for sure he was a bootlegger
but he was not.  The callsign is a valid one.  Of course, it
is a vanity call.

That got me to wondering if there are any restrictions on
callsigns either ham radio or broadcast stations that the FCC
assigns?  It seems to me that this one shouldn't have been
allowed.
