That is the monitor and the guy; bald with a German accent.
I remember he was prominently featured in some of the Vanguard ads.
We used the monitor for aligning M-6095 (tube type) exciters in the
service shop when used equipment was sold converted to stereo. Since
we were "borrowing" new stock from production, right out of test,
the monitors seemed to work. Considering the designer, I was surprised.
The way that thing was designed, I think he must have owned stock in
the company that produced the Op Amp chips it used.
Fortunately, there were other designers there that did build stuff
that worked. Hilmer Swanson was the best, but I also remember Hoyt
and Strattman. ISTR that the German guy got involved in the TE-1
along with Bill Hoyt, and that is where the problems originated.
I do believe he was involved in the VP's. Remember, the original VP
design dated back to the late '60's.
