As I've posted before, the Yearbook also lists KQV as being a year older than
KDKA. Like KD, our studios are located in downtown Pittsburgh. KQV has
almost always had a smaller promotion budget. The station was started by
Doubleday-Hill Electric. Legend has it when they wanted to sell a radio someone would
fire up the transmitter. The few radios which received the Harding-Cox
election returns on KD were probably sold by Doubleday-Hill.

No matter who was first, it's neat that both stations exist to this day with
a "K" prefix and minimal ownership changes over the past century.

Who was first can boil down to:

    a) Who had the first experimental broadcast
    b) Who first had regularly scheduled broadcasts
    c) Who first promoted a schedule of broadcasts
    d) Who was granted the first license

Care to add to the list?

Frank Gottlieb
