At least they were smart enough to say "some" :-)
>From Sunday's (Madison) Wisconsin State Journal:
"WHA-AM in Madison, the flagship station of Wisconsin Public Radio, is
regarded by some as the oldest station in the nation. Although the claim
is debatable, the station traces its roots to 1914. Edward Bennett, a
University of Wisconsin professor in the electrical engineering
department, set up a wireless telegraphic set on campus and obtained a
license with the call sign 9XM. In June 1915, he transferred his license
to UW for use by the physics department for wireless experiments. The
first telegraphic broadcast of the weather forecast from 9XM occurred on
Dec. 4, 1916. A regular program schedule began on Jan. 3, 1921. On Jan.
13, 1922, the station was relicensed with the call letters WHA.
