My guess is they bought it, took it dark and write it off as a one time 
expense.
But if they bought it, kept it and then operated it, they would have not 
only the cost of aquisition PLUS the cost of operating a daytime only AM 
station in a market that had trouble supporting a number of AMs. How 
long could/would they lose money in operations.
 Besides KAAY 1090, there was (is) also 1050, 1150, 1250, 1380 and 1440. 
Plus there were some others that cropped up out in the burbs.
It's all a matter of money.
