I wonder if it was one of Lingo's which failed catastrophically at KNTV 
some years back (before NBC bought the station and moved it to San 
Francicso)?

The tower and the slot radiator (which replaced a Superturnstile) was OK 
in high winds, but it resonated in low winds.

The fracture was above the flange, within the "meat" of the extension.
