What kind of managers have you decided to work for in the past?
Like any business today, managers are under pressure. Here in this
market, and even more so in Michigan, managers know they need sharp
enigneers. Any manager that thinks that engineers are "screwing around"
will also be thinking wrong things about business and will not last.
Here in Grand Rapids, there was one market cluster that thought they
pulled a fast one and hired a "know it all" engineer for about 60% of
the going rate. Within two years this so called engineer has cost this
company more money than any salary saving ever did. And that manager
turned around and hired a top ten market engineer to come to market # 66
(I think).
I get calls every month from managers looking for good engineers.
They don't use the word cheap anymore. They know they are going to pay $
85 a hour for that copier to be fixed, and the same for their bread and
butter automation.
I think it's time you learned how to work for better managers.
