>>There were so many
animated graphics promoting upcoming shows that they covered up the
subtitles. The graphics slid in and out at the top and bottom of the
screen. I finally just tuned away.

FX is real bad about doing this. There are several shows I like on FX like
Over There, Rescue Me and reruns of Dharma & Greg. They not only put the
swooping and swooshing logos in the lower third, they also have to add sound
effects. The SFX are so loud, it pulls the processor down and takes several
seconds to recover.

We saw this problem coming 10 years ago when I was at The Nashville Network.
We purchased a new Leitch Logomotion for our bug. Leitch demonstrated how
we could animate the TNN and guitar head logo so it could fly in, slide in,
or whatever we wanted it to. We decided to stick with the simple opaque
logo. We figured that once the other divisions like outdoor and motorsports
saw what we could do, everyone would want flying bugs and it would be too
distracting to the viewers.

>>It makes watching anything dramatic a real letdown.

I never watch theatrical movies on television. If I like the movie enough,
I'll get a DVD copy of it.
