I see Contel is listed on:

as a Shortwave Transmitter company.
Dave, how did Continental feel about the Continental Electronics
Wholesale Corporation name?

Bruce:
Nice to meet you in Manchester last year.
Continental watched two companies that sold transmitters in the US. The
company in Miami was a small company and usually made 10 kW, plate modulated
rigs built by Cubans in the Miami area and they usually went out of the
country. They may have violated the trademarked name.
The other company was located in Atlanta owned by the Senior Eastern
airlines pilot whose name slips my mind. He actually sold his warehouse to Ron
Baker who moved CCA and CSI/Singer etc. in there.
He actually built 5 and 10 kW. transmitters in Atlanta using screen grid
modulation of 4CX5000A or 10,000 tubes in a linear mode, no modulation
transformer. These transmitters were sold direct and thru Barry Electronics, New York
City fame. Most of them went out of the country but there was a 10 kW. at
WGUN, Atlanta and a 5 kW in Augusta, GA and there may have been a 5 kW in
Savannah, GA as I recall.
Again the decision was made based on the cost of challenging their use of a
patented circuit vs. court costs vs. how much actual losses had occurred.
There have been several other successful challenges on the Continental
Electronics trademarked name.
Happy New Year
