Robert:

Remember many stations have kept up their older transmitters... WLW for many
years kept in operating condition four of the five transmitters at the AM
site. When they dropped one of the 50 kW's it wasn't the Western Electric it
was the Crosley-Rockwell 50 kW. Cathanode Hi-Fi transmitter. Then it was
the WE, CE 317, Harris DX-50. The Crosley and the RCA 500 kW rigs are probably
still there but have been run in years.

It has been up to the engineers and companies for many many years in the
broadcasting business. Since it is now the business of broadcasting you are
seeing many of these older transmitters being removed and junked out, which is
a business decision based on accounting/depreciation and maintenance costs
not good fellings toward history or see how long engineers can keep it
running.

You and I are friends, but since we are highly opinionated individuals, we
run our shops differently within the guidelines provided by the powers that
be of our companies. They both achieve a quality and reliability of
peformance and meet some form of bottom line.

Happy New Year

P.S. Frank The ITA 5 KW at KQV looks very good for its age. Great job
for your transmitter guys.

Dave
