KATY-FM, San Luis Obispo had an ITA as their auxiliary transmitter. It was
probably their original transmitter. It was in the control room of the
AM/FM upstairs from the VW dealership in the early 1970s. I'd heard
stories of the ITA throwing flames out the front and DJs hiding from it
under the Gates Dualux console. When I became involved, they had a Bauer
FM transmitter as the main. The station I worked for (KSLY, 1400kHz)
bought the FM. We moved it to the local mountain top. The ITA was given to
KCPR to increase the power of their old Visual (which had recently
replaced the GE Phasitron). the Bauer was traded in to AEL, but sat in my
garage for many years. AEL eventually also gave that to KCPR.
