There is encoding in the signal giving the name of most network programs.  My 
VCR reads it - but doesn't use it to choose what I want to record.  It seems 
like it would be simple to simply type in the name of the program you want to 
record and have the recorder search for it.  That may be how TiVo works.  
Don't know - don't have one.
