Some of the guys here in the shop told me today that a few of the retirees
always called Frank Stanton, Doctor Stanton, out of respect.

In the early 70s the IBEW Techs went out on strike against CBS-TV in the
winter.  They picketed and and built fires in fifty-five gallon drums to
keep warm.  Dr. Frank Stanton used to drive in with his trunk full of
firewood for them to burn.

Frank Stanton received his Doctorate in Psychology, so his motives could be
varied.

Does anybody know if he supported the Union's side, OR if he was saying by
his actions that even though we disagree we can still be friends, OR if he
was saying 'You'll never win this strike, you'll need a lot of wood to get
through this winter!".

As I understand it, the strike was about having Non-Union
people (secretaries) operating Character Generators.
