I have seen several stations that are remotely located in rough areas that
have installed video cameras at their transmitter site. They add DSL to the
telephone line at the transmitter and set up an IP address for the site.
They have purchased a video hard drive survelliance unit and they have tied this
in with the existing burgular alarm and remote control using and old studio
computer as the terminal. When an intrusion alarm occurs the remote control
logs the intrusion time and notifies the control point. Then either at the
studio or remotely via the network the hard drive video can re rewound to the
time of the intrusion and the video cameras can be viewed. All of this
equipment was in existance except the video security system which was bought at
Sam's for $800.00.
Again the constant creativeness of broadcast engineers.
