I get the online versions of about a dozen national and international news
organizations, including USA Today, CNN, MSNBC et al. and the only one I can
find that has the story of Dr. Stanton's death is the New York Times. Even
the "Obituary in the News" section of Fox News doesn't have it. All have the
James Brown story.

Maybe Dr. Stanton just didn't have a brand new bag.

Probably one of the very last of the top management people from the Golden
Age of Radio, Frank Stanton did a little of everything along the way,
starting in research but playing a key role in the political battles over
color TV standards and freedom of the press - not to mention being
responsible for CBS' incredibly high graphic standards over the years.

The NYT obit (which has probably been sitting in the can since the early
70s) is quite comprehensive...

Of course, the publicity today will be all about James Brown, instead.
Hopefully there's someone working at the Broadcast Center today who still
remembers the Stanton era and can remind Katie (or whoever's filling in for
her tonight) to at least mention his passing on the Evening News.
