This one is easy, go to a big box sportsman's store (Gander Mountain or
another) buy the digital camera hunters use to photo deer.  The cameras use
a passive infrared detector to trigger the camera.  With the IR source and
IR pickup in the camera there is no visible light or flash and at least you
have a picture of the critters breaking into your shelter.  Also some deer
pix and maybe a good place to hunt.

How about borrowing Techniques from the U.S. Military. infrared perimimeter
fencing. break the beam the place lights up and sounds an alarm. Night
Vision Camaeras hooked to an IP feed to your station. Electrified Fencing
w/razer wire. keep in mind i don't know the legalities of such.
