That's where the dynamics processing of Cool Edit/Audition comes in. It
allows getting a reasonably consistant sound level across various files from
various sources. It makes for a good, consistent on-air sound. If 
it's done on an
ongoing basis, for every new element that's being imported, it's not that
burdensome. I was already doing this with source material when we got 
our first
digital system. Every file going in needed to be "tweaked" anyway, so why not
spend a few extra seconds running the dynamics processing? It's paid 
off, already,
and continues to do so.
